  • Great so what happens when your charge runs out on a motorway at speed or even in a traffic jam when there is no hard shoulder and there is some huge juggernaut bearing down on you. Electric cars are not eco friendly to produce and their batteries have a lifespan of around 10 years. They are also far too expensive. My 1993 Rover 214 is still on the road after 28 years and still in excellent condition. I don't think any of these will last as long. There will be piles and piles of electric cars just waiting to be scrapped. Meanwhile the government will be rubbing their greasy palms together from the increased taxation on electricity - which we use to heat our houses with. Electricity is a necessity but petrol is not.

  • Why do you insist on doing a range test of an electric vehicle on a motorway, which has virtually no start stop and therefore virtually no regenerative braking. How could you ever hope to get anywhere near the manufacturers stated range doing that? Just how many journeys, as a percentage of all journeys are "go as afar as you can from point a without stopping, or breaks, or rests? These cars are designed around real world use and therefore optimized for the majority of use cases, not some small niche use case. It means that the people that do their twice weekly shop in it, or take the children to whatever activities they do, or do their twice a day 5 or 10 mile commute every day will almost never again have to visit a petrol station. For the twice maybe three times a year they go on the family holiday, or the wedding at the other end of the country, or they might have to think about where they will stop and take a break. But most people will do that with sat nav on. The children will need a break every 2 hours, the driver should take a break every 2 hours. A stop with children all using the toilet and looking at the magazines in the shop can quite easily take more than 20 minutes, unless you have a sergeant major for a Dad. To put it bluntly; your test is flawed. If you're testing the manufacturers' claims, your test is flawed as you are not performing the same test they do. If you're trying to get a real world range, your test is flawed as your driving is not typical of real world driving. You need to put away your ICE thinking where efficiency was all about steady state, minimum throttle and start thinking about EV design, where start stop is the most efficient, because it's been designed that way, because it's been designed around real world driving.

  • Our current car gets just over 300 miles on one tank of petrol which costs £50 to fill. That is mixed town and a significant amount of motorway driving. None of these cars on our current electricity tarifff would cost more than £7 to top up. Therefore I’m assuming that I’d get a whole tank of petrol for £15 tops! What’s not to like? I wish you’d included the MG ZS EV, as I’d love to know what the real range of that is. It boasts 163 miles, but…

  • Not very helpful really. None of these cars have a practical useful range. If you want to drive 300 miles to Scotland you'd have to make stopovers to re charge and the journey would be quicker by coach or train. If your sat nav sends you on a wrong turning you run out of power miles from anywhere - so useful.

    Cosens-PriorCosens-PriorPrieš 13 dienų

There is nothing wrong with French cars in fact they make some of the best looking cars on the road as my wife says during our business road trips, it’s just that I’m a patriot and would not buy from any car company so close to home. Even though most Uk based car companies are foreign owned a fair proportion goes back into the Uk economy. Please do not take my comment as a insult on the French car industry.
