A study in a British prison found that inmates who took vitamin supplements were less prone to violent behavior. And in Germany, a psychologist at the University of Lübeck has shown that social behavior is influenced by the ingredients consumed at breakfast. But what really happens in the brain when we opt for honey instead of jam, and fish rather than sausage? Scientists around the world are trying to find out. Neuro-nutrition is the name of an interdisciplinary research field that investigates the impact of nutrition on brain health. Experiments on rats and flies offer new insight into the effects of our eating habits. When laboratory rats are fed a diet of junk food, the result is not just obesity. The menu also has a direct influence on their memory performance. The role of the intestinal flora has been known for some time, but scientists are currently discovering other relationships. So-called "brain food" for example: The Mediterranean diet that’s based on vegetables and fish is said to provide the best nutrition for small grey cells. Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fish, for example, protect the nerve cells and are indispensable for the development of the brain - because the brain is also what it eats!

I never considered an unhealthy diet could effect the brain. As someone with a family history of congestive heart failure, the heart being effected was what I was most conscious of.

The single biggest detriment to the current and past society in America dating back to the 60s is the sugar lobby of the 60s and the lies they perpetuated. It is directly responsible for countless deaths from cardiovascular, organ failures, hypertension, stroke, etc al. They keep mentioning fat in this document which isn't necessarily true. Fat, naturally occurring is absolutely necessary. It's the added fats in processed foods that are the problem.

in short you eat trash you become trash love giving awareness i noticed my hard time learning anything ehenci was younger and poor immune system by eatting all that shit at 15~16 changed mywatting habits and never got sick again now im 19 love the results when i was younger every month i was on antibiotics and all other drugs doc prescribed immune stimulants never ever helped me but boom changed my trash food to quality food and it's just amazing sometimes i eat trash food but very rare like 4 times in a month

You guys are talking about 'foods' which aren't real foods. But, research intent understand. Next testing, just use fundamental traditional foods, not the highly processed relatively modern foods. Beer and cheese are accepted,… and fermented starch products also.

Honestly it's different for everyone. I can't follow a low fat high carb diet. I gain so much weight and feel miserable. I need protein and fats. Transfats are the bad fats that cause issues. Your brain needs fat, eliminating it from your diet starves your brain. The western diet is wrong, the diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol and blood pressure epidemic is higher than ever even when people follow the stupid diet. I had to live in a shelter and was thankful for that because I was having issues in my life but all they fed us was the recommended western diet and my body is still recovering 3 years after. I can't get the weight off even after changing my diet, and I have stomach issues. They offered way to much bread, pasta and soy which I'm allergic too but still had to eat it or starve since there was no food allowed in your room. Your diet is based off your DNA, not one diet fits all. However if it's not found in nature such as pasta, bread, or sweets you should stay away from it.
Nothing new under the sun but again, why not underling the difference between the fast-food fats and healthy fats that guaranty more health on every level

They get so close and are yet so far from understanding the full picture. The problem is processed food, animal protein and animal fat. A healthy plant-based diet has been shown to drastically improve the overall function of all bodily functions. Animal protein is problematic, because it is foreign to the human body, and is highly carcinogenic. You can directly affect a person's risk of getting cancer, by just adjusting the amount of animal protein they intake. You can do this with regards to animal fat and Alzheimers as well. Acne and eczema come from the body trying to clear out waste that is building up in the body, and the immune response to said waste products. Eating a healthy plant-based diet and adding a lot of fruit can even reverse the damage, that has been done. I had an incurable brain lesion in the frontal lobe and chronic acne. And it got fixed after a half-year on an 80% fruitarian diet with 20% plant-based cooked meals. My brother has 3 cysts, for no apparent reason, I know that he could heal if he changed some of his ways. Imagine how much it pains me, that I know the answer to his and my families health problems, but I can't help them cause they won't listen and see the research. They eat blackened lard-soaked steaks and then lecture me on their personal ideas about health. But they suffer from tumours, weak bones, acne, eczema and mild cognitive impairment, am I the guy who has the wrong picture here?! I want you to have access to this information, so you can make up your own minds. I hope that you will look this up and see for yourself :)

Unfortunately, they are still starting with some unexamined, unquestioned assumptions that have been disproven long ago. In the beginning of the film, he mentions excess fat as harmful junk food. Depends on the type of fat: processed, hydrogenated vegetables oils, yes, harmful. Saturated fat, no. Then the mice experiment shows how important fat is in the diet. But then he recommends eating vegetable oils to avoid the problem the mice had, but processed vegetable oils are what is harmful. So people are going to go away from this film with the idea to use liberal amounts of processed vegetable oils that clog arteries.
Organic food is needed
I have know the connection between good healthy nutrition the gut and brain health for over 35 years as many our us 'mere mortals' do, as well as the indigenous people and ancient worlds. "Let thy food be medicine and medicine by thy food" ascribed to Hippocrates in 400 BC. And it is well know that the food industry has spent millions on finding 'food chemicals' which make them addictive to the brain so that we inturn spend more money on their 'food products'. Good to see more science proofing this!

You can't cut carbs and fat, you can't get enough calories to thrive. The solution of course is to cut the sugars (and thus carbs) and not the fat. The brain works even better on ketones. So throw out sugar and grains and vegetable oils. Adopt a low carb paleo diet. This will be by far the best diet coming 10 years until we have found something even better.

Good doc. One thing shows how confusing the whole nutrition thing is that in the beginning of the doc it is well precised fats and carbs are bad for the body (ok some images are shown for fast food) but later in the doc we are advised again olive oil and Mediterranean diet with fruits that also contain carbs :) Even a doc has severe problem in distinguishing/pointing out what is healthy/harmfull fat and more healty carb choice (found in veggies or fruit) vs sugary very well refined and coated commercially advertised non nutritious at all/harmfull carbs! Good luck for anyone trying to go deep in the subject. Because you'll see clearly fat is bad for you by a phd. guy in his expertise area and a minute later you'll again hear no not that one but the other :))) Neither our vocabulary catched up for healthy nutrition I suppose.

Society and the economy ethics’s have to change at first. People who have a lower socioeconomic status eat more junk food and do not have a healthy diet because it is way much cheaper than healthy food. Why is it that a salad is twice expensive than a hamburger? If healthier food would be much more available for low-income families I am sure much of these problems would disappear.
Maybe the Rat wanted the water and not the cocaine and just chose the nicest tasting one.
